Správa železnic receives subsidies for restoration of rack railway from Tanvald to Kořenov
The repair will bring improvement of the structural and technical condition for the line and increase safety. An important part of the project is the revitalisation of the rack railway in the intermediate sections and its reinstallation at the station Dolní Polubný.
Contracts will be concluded with the contractors later this year and the tender procedure is already underway. By the end of the year, the specific components of the racks and the steel sleepers will be manufactured, and next year both structures will be implemented in a simultaneous closure.
On the Polish side, the project includes the replacement of rails in the section Szklarska Poręba Górna – state border with a total length of 13.294 km and protection of two level crossings and their control from the station Szklarska Poręba Górna. The Czech and Polish parts of the project will be implemented by 2027.
The restoration of the so-called ‘rack and pinion’ railway is the largest investment project of the Interreg programme. Správa železnic will receive the subsidy on the basis of a grant agreement to be concluded this February with the Ministry for Regional Development. The Polish project partner will implement the construction through Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei (DSDiK – Lower Silesian Road and Railway Service). On the Czech side, it cooperates with the Liberec Region and KORID LK (Public Transport Coordinator of the Liberec Region).
The budget of the whole project is EUR 23.4 million, of which EUR 18,857,810 (CZK 452,498,651) is the cost of Správa železnic. Správa železnic will receive a subsidy from EU and national funds provided by the Ministry for Regional Development of up to 80.7% of the eligible costs, i.e. CZK 367,714,875.
