Smart stops will be built at twelve locations by end of year
Správa železnic intends to improve passenger informedness at railway stations. In cooperation with contracting authorities for public transport, it has proposed 12 locations to be equipped with new shelters and electronic information panels. Passengers will learn about unplanned changes in the timetable, delayed trains or operational emergencies.
“The shelters at the stops will serve passengers not only as protection from the vagaries of the weather, but they will also include touchscreens with up-to-date traffic information. First, we will equip busy stops with them, for example the one in Golčův Jeníkov, which is also served by fast trains on the route from Prague to Havlíčkův Brod. They will also be located at stations where people change to other modes of public transport,” describes Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.
The smart stop will consist of a glazed shelter for passengers equipped with smart technologies. In addition to the electronic information panel, there will be switchable LED lighting, a camera system and the possibility of charging phones.
Each shelter will be of an anti-vandal design, as well as a bench with a backrest and a waste bin. Passengers will be able to view the regular timetable, the departure board or a display of the train's current position on a touch-screen information panel. A loudspeaker will be used to provide acoustic information.
There will also be a built-in camera to record photos in case of damage to the device. This will significantly increase the safety of passengers at the stop, both by allowing the perpetrator to be detected from the footage captured and as a preventive measure.
Overall, the smart stop is designed to have very low power consumption and be as energy efficient as possible. This will allow it to be powered by solar panels.
