Safer and smoother in Olomouc. New overpass over the corridor open

Railway and road traffic on the outskirts of Olomouc is safer thanks to a new overpass, which was inaugurated today by Správa železnic. It will replace the busy crossing in Holická Street, cars will start using it tomorrow. This will significantly increase the flow of traffic between the Hodolany and Holice districts and inversely reduce noise and emissions in the vicinity of the construction. The works have been underway since the middle of last year, the total cost is CZK 374 million.

The construction of the overpass required the construction of a 468-metre-long relocation to the third-class road. The new bridge consists of a steel-concrete structure. Not only cars can cross the corridor safely, but also cyclists thanks to dedicated lanes. A pedestrian walkway is also available. The relocation of the road connecting Holická and Technologická Street was also part of the works.

The new overpass underwent a load test last week to verify the static functions of the bridge structure. Six four-axle vehicles, each weighing 32 tonnes, were used for the load.

The contractors of the construction were the companies FIRESTA-Fišer, rekonstrukce, stavby; TOMI – REMONT and IDS – Inženýrské a dopravní stavby Olomouc. The total cost amounted to CZK 374,542,654. Financing was provided by Státní fond dopravní infrastruktury (State Fund for Transport Infrastructure).
