Historically valued building of railway station in Teplice is once again ornament of spa town
The Teplice railway station building has been serving passengers since 1858. “It is a unique example of the Neo-Romanesque style on the Czech railway. That is why the builders, in cooperation with conservationists and restorers, returned the building to its mid-19th century appearance. After the completion of the first stage of the reconstruction, the second stage awaits us, during which the interior of the building will be renovated and new parking areas will be built so that the station can fully serve the public,” says Minister of Transport Martin Kupka.
Workers carried out a complete renovation of the roof and façade, at the same time replacing windows and doors. In the basement, the air-conditioning and wiring were modified.
“An integral part of the work was the reconstruction of the first platform adjacent to the station building. Here, all areas have been renovated, even the repaired cast-iron columns of the historic roof have returned to the site,” describes Jiří Svoboda, Director General of Správa železnic.
The contractor was the company Chládek a Tintěra. The total investment costs of the first stage amount to CZK 325,475,475, the price of construction works currently amounts to CZK 238.5 million. The project is proposed for co-financing by the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
The project documentation is currently being finalised for the second stage of the work, which will involve the renovation of the interior of the historic building.
It does not end with Teplice
The building in Teplice is not the only listed building to which Správa železnic has returned its historical appearance. Works on the roof, façade, and part of the interior of the Fanta building at Prague Main Station have already been completed, and the work in Pilsen and České Budějovice is practically finished. The reconstruction in Světlá nad Sázavou is close to completion.
The builders, on the other hand, started the transformation of buildings in Žatec and Ostrava-Vítkovice. At the main station in Pardubice, the renovation of the high-rise building there will be followed by the reconstruction of the check-in hall, as well as the reconstruction of the remaining parts of the already mentioned Fant building and the station in Teplice.
The upcoming buildings in Cheb, Klatovy and Plzeň-Jižní Předměstí will also be supervised by conservationists.
Správa železnic approaches the renovation of historically valuable buildings sensitively and in close coordination with conservationists. It restores buildings to their original form, emphasising the selection of the right materials, for example in the production of replicas of individual architectural elements. This is reflected not only in the time required for the construction w ork, but also in the final price of the reconstruction.Soubory ke stažení
