Cameras at corridor level crossing in Vendryně caught almost 300 offences last year
The camera system in Vendryně has been in operation since the beginning of last year. By its end, it had recorded a total of 280 offences; the culprits entered the level crossing at a time when the warning signal was activated due to an approaching train. The subsequent fining of offenders on the basis of camera footage is carried out by the Třinec municipal authority, which has already collected the amount of CZK 682,000.
The four-track level crossing at Studénka railway station was selected as another location for the use of the intelligent camera system. It is currently undergoing a test operation and will be certified by the Ministry of Transport after its successful completion. The municipal authorities in Studénka and Bílovec will be involved in the subsequent dealing with the offences.
Správa železnic currently has another 33 level crossings in its sights, where it is examining the possibility of installing a system for recording offences. The selected sites must be approved by the Police of the Czech Republic. Cooperation in the handling of the offence agenda will then be discussed with the relevant municipalities.
Správa železnic pays great attention to safety at level crossings. One of the options is to remove them completely, which happened last year at more than sixty locations. In place of level crossings where there is a high volume of road or rail traffic, overpasses or underpasses are then built. Currently, for example, a road overpass over the corridor line in Olomouc-Holice is being built, a new bridge over the four-track line in Praha-Velká Chuchle or the construction of an underpass instead of the aforementioned level crossing in Studénka is at an advanced stage of preparation.
Správa železnic also spends considerable sums on improving safety at existing crossings. Last year, 124 level crossings were modernised in this way for almost CZK 2.2 billion. This year, another hundred places should be added, the planned investment amounts to almost CZK 1.8 billion.Soubory ke stažení
