Automatic system alerts construction workers of approaching train

Správa železnic has started using a system ATWS to improve safety during construction work carried out during train operation. The device automatically detects an approaching train and alerts workers with acoustic and visual warnings. The line section from Karlštejn to Beroun was selected for the verification operation of the system.

A lot of constructions on railways takes place while trains are running. Here, the protection of construction workers moving on the track is important. Správa železnic has therefore now started the verification operation of the ATWS (Automatic Track Warning System), which warns of an approaching train.

The entire construction site can be divided into warning sectors several hundred metres long. Train movements are recorded by track contacts connected to the transmitter. The signal is then transmitted to a device that triggers an acoustic and visual alert. The departure of the train from the construction site is again detected automatically or manually by construction personnel.
