New bridge near Brandýs will speed up trains and allow motorway to be widened

The D10 motorway near Brandýs nad Labem will be crossed by a new railway bridge this weekend. Its arched steel structure has a span of 68 metres and will enable the future extension of the busy road by a third lane in each direction. Trains from Čelákovice to Brandýs will start using the new bridge in November.

The new steel structure, the so-called Langer beam, weighs 400 tonnes. It is now being assembled on the bridge abutment, after which it will be moved to a position close to its final alignment. It will be settled there with the help of a heavy crane on the night of Saturday to Sunday.

Správa železnic will also carry out modifications of the railway superstructure in the length of 400 metres, two nearby culverts will also be reconstructed. The railway substructure and related cable lines will also be renewed. All of this will enable the line speed to be increased.

The construction of the new bridge requires a continuous closure between Čelákovice and Brandýs, which will last until 4 November. In addition, traffic on the entire line from Čelákovice to Neratovice will be interrupted from 14 October. The motorway will also be completely closed from 6 pm on Saturday until 8 am on Sunday.

The contractor of the works for CZK 154,333,103 is the company Eurovia CZ. The construction will be completed this November.
